A busy weekend

After a cold, stormy and gloomy weekend, the sun's finally out today! :)

Saturday was a semi-failure.

We went for Nara Candle Festival alright but didn't stay to volunteer. We were waiting for our shift to start but by the weather was simply too harsh. Dark clouds soon cover whatever little sunshine there was and a storm soon ensued. Cold and wet, we decided to pang seh the organizers and came back to my place instead to have 부대찌개 (Budae Jjigae) and 해물파전 (Haemul Pajeon). Nonethless, I did manage to get a few shots of the festival...

Traditional (Mochi) pounding ceremony (餅搗き) demonstration.

Our friend, Ihntaek, with the ANU 剣道 (Kendo) club's demonstration.

An unexpected Japanese guest, a uber-可愛い 柴犬 (Shiba Inu).

Sunday on the other hand, was more fruitful.

Arrived at the Singapore High Commission at around 11:15 and subsequently started my shift at the registration booth. Surprisingly, Sharon was there. It's been a long time since I last saw her and it was quite a pleasant surprise. She introduced me to her hubby as well. Oh I bump into my prospective hons supervisor as well. (He's married to a Singaporean.) Apparently my research proposal for SRS was amongst the final 7 but unfortunately they had only 6 scholarships to give out so I lost out to my competitors in terms of grades. Sigh. But at least to be able to make it to the final round was some kind of consolation I guess. :)

Stayed back after the event to help clear up and was given 40 pieces of frozen prata by Kok Wee. How random! But I was damn grateful that Sharon and her hubby were nice enough to give me a lift back to my place. I have no idea how I'm going to make it back in that shitty weather. I dunno why but I crashed almost immediately after I got back. Sibeh tired lah can! Had dinner with Zhiqi, his friends from Melbourne, Mabel and Mingwei and then they came over to my place for some beer. It was good fun. Pity we all only had a night together. Looking forward to a reunion with Zhiqi + Mabel + Max in Singapore in the future.

Meeting Hyeyoung at 2 to study later. Time to wash up, have lunch and get ready.
