While I was searching for my research books today, I made a small detour in the library to have a look at the small collection of Japanese films the library has. Just when I thought everything that I wanted to watch is in a region code that my lappy doesn't supports, I came across 誰も知らない (Nobody Knows). I recognize the cover and knew it was something I'd wanted to watch in some film festival but for some reason, missed it.
At first glance, I thought it was going to be some kinda "slice of life"/inspiration film but I was wrong. Based on a true story, 誰も知らない is actually a very tragic film - not on romance but on life itself. The pace is slow (not draggy though) with many intricate details to get the viewers attached to the characters. In fact, it's so slow that I could sympathize with the characters in the film (i.e. it's painfully slow). So there's plenty of character development but don't expect much plot.
In any case, I think it's a good movie to watch but do it when you're in better spirits.
(next up: Hula Girls on Wednesday, hosted by the Embassy of Japan)
On another note, I had お茶漬け for lunch today and I attempted to cook 豚カツ 2 nights ago. お茶漬け was instant, expect for the rice (just poor hot water) but it's extremely easy especially when you have leftover rice for lunch. 豚カツ is slightly more tricky and it's probably the first time I'm deep-frying something. Lucky I had enough pieces to practice that evening but I think I know how to improve it. The next time I'd cook it with curry. =)
