Now the next step is to find a way to upgrade to version 2.2, jailbreak it and see if I can get "emoji" to work on my 2.5G iPhone.

Japanizing my iPhone
Despite missing internet connection, I have successfully upgraded (+ jailbreak-ed) my iPhone to version 2.0. That's right. Now I can finally download all the amazing stuff from iTunes. :)
FYI, texting in Japanese is now exactly the same as using my previous DoCoMo phone. YAY!
