Top of the (Chapel) Hill

[Colbie Caillat - Bubbly]

I finally had the chance to have a meal at Top of the Hill. It was a birthday cum farewell dinner for a few Singaporeans. The ambience was warm (not cosy but warm), something one can feel comfortable in without that "atas" feeling. However, for a relatively atas place, food wasn't as up to standard I feel. I mean, I had like steak and it came with whipped potato which was perfectly fine but also fried onion too! The portion of fried onion was similar to what you'd give for fries. I don't understand. Fried onion (it's not even onion rings, mind you) is like so low class and distasteful to serve as a side I think. Then, Zhengqi's burger came with fries made from sweet potato. I don't know which is worse. While I don't expect the kind of food I had for my hundred dollar, wine-matching dégustation meals, I expect Top of the Hill to have some kind of standard too. My whipped potato didn't come with gravy and when i looked at what my other friends' had ordered, none of the entrées had that touch of class. Anyway, bottom line is, it's unlikely I'd go back there again. Unless it's for a date and I need a quiet place.

In all honesty, given the absence of hawker fare, good Cantonese and Japanese cuisine in Chapel Hill, I wish there are some better restaurants that I can try. I mean, what's better than good food with good company? In the case where you're missing either, at least you still have the other. Then it's times like these when I wish I still have my car and I have the time to go exploring for new places to eat. To me, food's important man - they can make or break your morale. And today, it kinda broke my morale. Not to mention that the exams are near.

AHHHHHHhhhhhhhh....

I need to study! Argh.
