[Ronan Keating - When You Say Nothing At All]
FINALLY...
After almost 3 weeks of absence, I'm back online.
Many things happened during these 19 days. There were...
... Birthdays, of the few, there were 2 very important ones
... Last minute studying for exams
... The actual exams
... The assignments and tests that I'd missed during the semester
... And then, there's of course a trip to Sydney before I wrap up this uber sucky semester.
Besides the fact that I'm too lazy to blog out the past 19 days, I'm also unwilling to name certain events. Simply because I don't want to recall certain events that will eventually lead to my brain recalling related past events and I don't want to have insomia again. So yep. I'd just talk on my Sydney trip.
Looking at my collection of photos, I realised that this is my 5th trip to Sydney. So what's so special about this trip? Well, for one, I drove a lot! And I'm very happy about that (in case you don't know, I LOVE to drive). If I buang my degree, I might just be an chauffeur. ANYWAY, as I was saying... I drove a lot. Probably 350-400km? Seasoned drivers to Sydney would know that the next thing I'm going to bring up is THE SKY-HIGH PARKING PRICES in downtown Sydney. Seriously. Stupid QVB cost like what? $23 for 1 to 2 hours! We spent a lot on the parking... and food.
Food was good. We had Bentley for our first dinner there. Bentley is this restaurant in Surry Hill that serves modern Australian crusine. It has been awarded 2 chef hats (out of three, mind you) and is the Best New Restaurant from the 2007 Sydney Good Food Guide. The Macleay's didn't think it was worth 2 chef hats but I thought the quality of the food wasn't too bad. The only problem was that the portions were too small for any of us to have a good feel of the dishes. This was what I had for mains:
Oh and because the ladies were busy shopping before dinner (we were previously at the stretch of Oxford street that didn't have much shops for guys), Alex and I had drinks at Bentley first. I didn't see any cocktail like on the menu and the nice bartender was kind enough to make up one for me! Just like that. On the spot. I can't remember the ingredients. All I can remember is that it tastes very similiar to Magarita when it's actually a mixture of about 4 different alcohol. Here's a shot of it:
One mistake that the staff at Bentley made was when Alex told the waiter about the cock residues in his wine, the fella only changed his glass when it should be a new glass with a new serving of wine. Honestly, I'm never very sure about such episodes but I'd suppose a 2 chef hat place should know how to handle their customer's wine.
And so, the meal wasn't filling so we had a second dinner at this Chinese restaurant. Somehow, the "hor fun", the steam fish, and yes, the ABALONE was tastier and more filling. But but, to all of our surprises, the abalone didn't exactly looked like what we expected.
The Hor Fun was good lah. Got the "wok huey". Got standard. Wah I just remembered, I've been drinking a lot recently. All Alex's fault. I drank like almost every meal sia. But it was good. I love if not all, most of the wines and beers that I had. Well anyway, needless to say, the other 2 days in Sydney was spent in similiar manner - 买东西吃东西, 买东西吃东西.
At the end, I was fat and broke. Like seriously fat and seriously broke (though somehow, we can still manage to have a feast at Debacle for lunch). But in all honesty, it was fun. Definately more fun than my previous trip. So Macleays, thanks! You guys were a fun bunch. And Erina, like what I'd said in the sms, you have been an excellent company. Thanks. Special mentioning goes to Alex for accompaning me to shop for all the guys stuff and driving the way back at night. And Kexin, your inability to stop eating kept me full during the entire trip and that made me a very happy person. So did I enjoy myself? You bet!
